Day One Law, LLC ("Day One Law," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information you provide when you contact us, visit our website, or communicate with us — including by text message (SMS) through our RingCentral business communications platform.
We may collect the following types of information:
We do not collect sensitive personal information (such as Social Security numbers or financial account details) through this website.
Day One Law offers text messaging as a convenient way for clients and prospective clients to communicate with our office. By providing your mobile phone number and consenting to receive text messages from us, you agree to the following terms:
We will not send unsolicited marketing text messages. We will not sell or share your mobile number with third parties for marketing purposes.
Message frequency varies based on your communications with our office. Most clients receive only a small number of messages per month, typically in connection with scheduling or case updates.
Standard message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile carrier and plan. Day One Law does not charge any additional fees for SMS communication.
You may opt out of receiving text messages from Day One Law at any time by replying STOP to any message we send. After opting out, you will receive a single confirmation message and no further texts. You may also opt out by contacting us directly at [email protected] or 971-220-8690.
For help with text messaging, reply HELP to any message or contact us at [email protected].
Text messages are not a fully secure form of communication. While we treat all client communications with the utmost confidentiality, please be aware that SMS messages may be stored by your mobile carrier. For sensitive legal matters, we recommend communicating by phone or encrypted email. No attorney-client relationship is formed solely by exchanging text messages with our office.
Day One Law uses RingCentral, a third-party cloud communications platform, to send and receive SMS text messages on behalf of our practice. This section explains what that means for your privacy and the confidentiality of your communications.
RingCentral, Inc. is a business communications provider that routes our office phone calls, voicemails, and SMS messages through its cloud platform. When you send a text message to our office number (971-220-8690), that message is transmitted through RingCentral's infrastructure before it reaches us.
As a service provider, RingCentral may store message metadata (such as sender number, timestamp, and message length) and message content on its servers in accordance with its own privacy policy and data retention practices. RingCentral is subject to its own terms of service and privacy policy, which are available at ringcentral.com/legal/privacy-notice.html.
Day One Law does not control RingCentral's data retention or security practices beyond the contractual obligations in our service agreement. We have selected RingCentral because it is a widely used, SOC 2-certified platform with industry-standard security controls, including encryption in transit and at rest.
The use of a third-party communications platform does not, by itself, waive attorney-client privilege. Courts have generally held that using standard business communication tools — including cloud-based platforms — does not destroy the confidentiality of attorney-client communications, provided the communications are not shared with unauthorized parties and reasonable precautions are taken.
Day One Law takes the following precautions when using RingCentral for client communications:
For communications involving sensitive legal strategy, detailed factual accounts, or information you would not want disclosed in any proceeding, we recommend using a direct phone call or encrypted email rather than SMS.
Day One Law does not sell, license, or provide your personal information to RingCentral for marketing or advertising purposes. RingCentral receives only the information necessary to transmit and deliver your messages (your phone number and message content). RingCentral is contractually prohibited from using your information for purposes unrelated to providing its communications services to us.
Our SMS messaging through RingCentral is registered under the wireless industry's 10-Digit Long Code (10DLC) framework, which requires carriers and messaging providers to register business SMS campaigns. This registration identifies Day One Law as the sender of messages from our office number and helps ensure our messages are delivered reliably and in compliance with carrier requirements. The 10DLC registration does not affect the content of your messages or your opt-out rights described in Section 2.
We use the information we collect to:
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We may share information with service providers who assist us in operating our practice — including RingCentral for phone and SMS communications — subject to confidentiality obligations. These providers receive only the information necessary to perform their services and are not permitted to use it for other purposes.
Information you share with Day One Law in connection with seeking legal representation is subject to attorney-client privilege and our professional duty of confidentiality under the Oregon Rules of Professional Conduct. We take the protection of client information seriously.
Please note that contacting us through this website or by text message does not automatically create an attorney-client relationship. A relationship is established only through a signed engagement agreement.
We retain client and prospective client information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, comply with our legal obligations, and meet applicable record-keeping requirements under Oregon State Bar rules.
You have the right to:
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of our website or communication with our office after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
